What is JCAHO, anyway?

You’ve seen the “Gold Seal of Approval” on our website, our flyers, and even our business cards, and it may leave you wondering… what does JCAHO mean? The Joint Commission (TJC), formerly the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations was founded in 1951 to improve the quality and value or health care for the public by evaluating health care organizations. Every year it evaluates and accredits over 20,000 health care organizations in the United States, independently and not for profit. While The Joint Commission was founded to raise the standards of patient care, it also sets the standard for healthcare staffing services firms, like us.

We proudly display our Health Care Staffing Services Certification because it ensures quality, organization, and dedication in everything we do. To earn the JC’s Gold Seal of Approval an organization undergoes an onsite survey by a team at least every three years.
Being JCAHO certified means we have made a serious commitment to a certain standard. It also establishes the framework for our organization’s structure and management. It enhances our recruitment and development process, and it gives you a reason to trust us with your needs. We reduce risk, attract only the best professionals, and demonstrate a commitment to our consultants and our clients. We maintain organized and accurate personnel records, too (organization can make or break a staffing firm).

We wanted to give you some insight into the JCAHO-HSS certification process, instead of just talking about the benefits. Let us walk you through it:

1. There is an announced initial review, in addition to re-certification reviews that are random. All are conducted on site.
2. The review focuses on: our ability to provide competent staffing services, evaluating performance, continuing education and training, and placement criteria.
3. The standards of the certification are divided into 4 sections
· Leadership
· Human Resources Management
· Performance Measurement and Improvement
· Information Management
4. We must adopt 3 performance measures:
·         Do not return rate for clinical reasons
·         Do not return rate for professional reasons
·         Completeness of personnel file

Who is eligible? Firms that:

-Place temporary clinical staff in other organizations that direct or provide direct patient care
- Place temporary clinical staff under the direct supervision of another organization's personnel
-Collect and present four months of data for each of the three standardized performance measures by the time of the initial (on-site) review

Although all this information may be a handful, we want to let you in on the approval process and what it means to us. The Joint Commission ensures that we are providing you with organized and high quality service, and we aim to do that every day. This process, among other regulatory processes, allows us to be the best firm we can be, and to offer outstanding services. We sincerely hope that when you do make the decision to search for a new experience as a job-seeker or search for qualified candidates (as a recruiter), you consider a firm with integrity, like us.
